Hairdressing Level 2

Below is an overview of our Hairdressing Training, outlining the qualifications you will achieve and the units and vocational areas you will cover throughout your training as well as other important information such as course duration and funding.

  • Training in Hairdressing
  • Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing
  • Key Skill Application of Number Level 1
  • Key Skill Communication Level 1
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
Units covered During your Hairdresser Training you will cover the following:
  • Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
  • Change hair colour
  • Style and finish hair
  • Set and dress hair
  • Cut hair using basic techniques
  • Advise and consult with clients
  • Make sure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
  • Give clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation

You are also required to take a number of optional units:

  • Fulfil salon reception duties
  • Promote additional services or products to clients
  • Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
  • Plait and twist hair
  • Perm and neutralise hair
Who is it for? Hairdressing Training is for anyone who’s serious about a career in Hair. There are options to suit individual needs and aspirations
Cost 16 – 18 free (employment in a salon needed) and 19 – 24 is free if employed in a salon or in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance, Employment Support Allowance or Universal Credit.

For people aged 24 and over it is free if on Universal Credit, Job Seekers Allowance or Employment Support Allowance

£840 if you are employed in a different industry

£3,000 if unemployed and not in receipt of any benefit – may be eligible for student loan.

Duration up to 23 months for 16 – 18 year olds and up to 12 months for 19+

Assessment method The qualifications are likely to call for a variety of assessment methods and the national occupational standards define what is to be assessed. Methods of assessment include:
  • Observation of performance
  • Questioning
  • Knowledge assessments with both online and paper tests available
